WEL Networks Provides Electricity Discount

Local lines company WEL Networks, alongside its shareholder the WEL Energy Trust, are pleased to announce an upcoming discount payment to further support the Waikato community.

WEL Networks and the WEL Energy Trust aim to distribute $10.35M (including GST) to customers as discount payments during July 2021.

Customers will receive a payment equivalent to 13% (on average) of the total lines charges billed to their connection between 1 April 2020 and 31 March 2021. The discount will appear as a credit on customers’ power bills from their retailer and will be capped at a maximum of $230 (including GST) per connection.

WEL Networks Chief Executive Garth Dibley says the upcoming discount payment is in addition to the annual discount programme which has been reintroduced this year.

“The annual WEL electricity discount programme will issue its first discount payment after the pricing year finishes on 31 March 2022. With the ongoing hardships associated with COVID-19, which has been difficult for our Waikato community in so many ways, we hope that this upcoming discount payment in July, will provide further support heading into the cooler months.”
