New Connections - Getting Connected

THE PROCESS

If you are building a new property or increasing the load to your existing property in the WEL Networks area (refer plan on Home page) you will need to make arrangements to connect to our network.

1. Apply to connect your new property or to increase the load to your existing property to our network

All new applications for connections must be made on the Application for New Supply/ Increased Load to the WEL Network Form.  You can have an application form posted to you by ringing 07 850 3100 or by downloading the PDF form by selecting the link in the side bar at left.
In order for WEL to process your application please submit it at least two weeks prior to your proposed connection date.  If you are aware additional work will be required to connect your property please submit earlier so that the work can be completed.
Please ensure that you clearly indicate whether the application is for a new supply or an increased load. We would ask that the person completing the owner/occupier section gives full address details including the street number (if available) and lot number. Please ensure that all fields within the ‘Electrical Contractor’ section are completed, by an electrician, in full.

For any increase in load applications the existing ICP (Installation Control Point) number will need to be entered into this section.

2. Send Application form to Retailer of your choice

Once you have completed the Application for New Supply/ Increased Load to the WEL Network Form please send or fax onto the Energy Retailer (options available by selecting the link in the side bar at left) of your choice and they will then forward the form to WEL Networks for approval of the connection, or the increase in load.

3. WEL receives and processes Application Form

Upon receipt of the Application Form from your chosen Energy Retailer WEL will process the application.
If the application is to connect the electricity supply for a house or other straightforward installation and suitable network is available then the form will be approved, an ICP (Installation Control Point) number issued and the approved form will be forwarded to your retailer and meter hanging contractor.  This should be completed within 2-4 working days.
If the installation is more complex, or alterations or extensions are required to the WEL Network in order to supply your property you or your electrician will be notified of the need for further investigation.
If any work is required to provide the sufficient capacity at the network connection point a customer contribution may be required towards the infrastructure cost.  In this case a quote will be forwarded to you within two weeks.    Full payment will be required prior to works proceeding and lead times for the installation may vary between one to three months.  Upon receipt of payment your Application for New Supply/ Increased Load to the WEL Network Form will be approved and forwarded to your Energy Retailer.

Application approval will be declined if insufficient information is provided, or any customer contribution for work is not first paid in full. If this process is not followed for any increases in load, you may be liable for costs to upgrade the network.
